The Video48 group is a collective trying to illuminate the darkness prevailing on societal issues that do not reach the media. It applies an egalitarian, international worldview. The group hopes to contribute to changing the reality and sees itself part of the struggles going on around the world against oppression, wars, and globalization. We focus particularly on documenting the status of Arab laborers in Israel and the Occupied Territories, who sustain the gravest injury - from both the Occupation and Israel's neoliberal economic policy. Our films draw on investigative work by people in the field, union-members and journalists who are not part of the establishment.
Where are the films screened?
The films address public opinion in Israel and elsewhere. They are broadcast on TV channels in Israel and other countries, and screened at international film festivals and societal events, cinematheques and art galleries.
Public opinion - fieldwork
We hold screenings for groups of laborers. With a projector and screen, we bring the films into the villages, screen them, and hold discussions on related issues. Similar screenings are also part of discussions we organize with Israeli teenagers and students.
Video workshops for women
We give video workshops for empowering women - creating together with them short films that describe their lives, focusing on women who have managed to get out to work.
Video workshops for youth
We engage with the identity of young Palestinian laborers in Israel - with video providing a work-tool. We hold in-depth interviews with the young people, and watch and analyze the films together.
Video workshops with children
During the first long film made by the group - Not in my Private Garden, which deals with the unrecognized village of Ramia - a short film was produced within that film, together with Ramia's children. The children's film presents a legend that has parallel qualities to the village's struggle.
